宋體：宋體字是印刷行業應用得最為廣泛的一種字體，根據字的外形的不同，又分為書宋和報宋。宋體是起源於宋代雕版印刷時通行的一種印刷字體。宋體字的字形方正，筆畫橫平豎直，橫細豎粗，棱角分明，結構嚴謹，整齊均勻，有極強的筆畫規律性，從而使人在閱讀時有一種舒適醒目的感覺。在現代印刷中主要用於書刊印刷或報紙的正文部分。

 

楷體：楷體又稱活體，是一種模仿手寫習慣的一種字體，筆畫挺秀均勻，字形端正，廣泛地用於學生課本、通俗讀物、批註等。

 

黑體：黑體字又稱方體或等線體，是一種字面呈正方形的粗壯字體，字形端莊，筆畫橫平豎直，筆跡全部一樣粗細，結構醒目嚴密。黑體適用於標題或需要引起註意的醒目按語或批註，因為字體過於粗壯，所以不適用於排印正文部分。

 

仿宋體：仿宋體是一種採用宋體結構、楷書筆畫的一種較為清秀挺拔的字體，筆畫橫豎粗細均勻，常用於排印副標題、詩詞短文、批註、引文等，在一些讀物中也用來排印正文部分。

 

美術體：美術體是指一些非正常的特殊的印刷用字體，一般是為了美化版面而採用。美術體的筆畫和結構一般都進行了一些形象化，常用於書刊封面或版面上的標題部分，應用適當，可以有效地增強印刷品的藝術品味。這類字體的種類非常廣泛，如漢鼎、文鼎等字庫中的字體。
