在中華文明五千年的變遷中,包裝是伴隨著人類的生存需要而出現的。包裝的歷史和人類的發展史樣,也同樣經歷了一個漫長的歷史發展過程,由粗淺稚拙到成熟興盛。

最初,包裝的出現僅僅是為了滿足人類在生活中的需要,人們在自然界中就地取材,使用樹葉、動物皮毛等作為對身體的包裹物;還學會了用黏土製作燒成各種盛器,方便食物和飲水的需要;為了方便轉移物品,將草和藤等天然材料經過“織編”製作成為筐籃簍等容器。

盡管簡陋、原始,但任何事物都有其自身發展的規律人類因生存的需要成就了包裝思想萌發的動因。

從原始的實用功能、攜帶功能開始,逐漸演變發展成今天集保護、攜帶、展示於一體的現代化的包裝。“掌生穀粒”品牌包裝:古樸的牛皮紙盒,象徵富貴的牡丹大花圖案,用揉制而成的紙藤一圈一圈地綁緊扎牢的牛皮紙袋,再貼上棉紙的外衣,手寫書法字體講述產地、產品與生產者的故事,質樸簡潔的包裝,只是為了讓大家感受到古早農業時代那種吃到新米的純然感動。包裝從字面上理解為“包裹、捆扎、填裝及裝飾”。

從廣義角度來說,所有用於包裹物品的東西都可以叫作包裝,從狹義角度來說,用於流通的商品的包裝才叫作包裝。
