概念系統是以概念、原理、原則、制度等組成,以研究軟件為主的宏觀管理技術系統。

綠色包裝概念系統正是從理念、原理角度去研究的宏觀系統它除滿足包裝功能性外,還必須要滿足綠色的環境性能。因此綠色包裝概念系統或簡稱綠色包裝系統應由包裝材料(含輔料),包裝容器、包裝技術加工工藝、流通銷售(含裝飾)和廢棄物處理等相互聯系、相互制約的因素構成,並以環境性能及包裝功能性為目標的有機整體。


實際上,很多系統都是實體系統與概念系統相互依存構成的復合系統。

實體系統是概念系統的物質基礎,而概念系統則為實體系統提供指導和服務。

生命周期理論強調綠色包裝系統的環境性能應在全部生命周期內總體上處於優化,而不是只考慮某一階段中的優化。因此生命周期理論是系統工程學的系統分析理論的實際應用,它可看成是綠色包裝概念系統的概念模型。

用生命周期理論研究綠色包裝系統的環境性能和採用系統工程理論研究的結果是一致的。

為使綠色包裝系統的環境性能最優,已經有許多學者進行研究,認為要使綠色包裝系統獲得最佳的環境性能,必須在其生命周期過程中做到“五綠”,即綠色材料、綠色設計、綠色加工、綠色流通和綠色處理。
