有一定字距的連續文字,即形成新的形象一線。文字的聚集構成字體設計在封面和護封上,書名是文字部分的主要項目,一般都採用大號字體。

其次是作者出版單位等,常用小號字。書名的字體變化最豐富,每一種字體都有各自的性格特徵,它可加強書籍內容的體現和表達,如政治法律、學術論文類的書籍選用宋體、黑體更能體現它的莊重嚴肅。書法、手寫體適用於表現中國文化。

如今電腦處理技術使文字風格變化無窮常用於小說雜記、詩歌散文、生活時尚等類的書籍。

這類圖書內容廣泛,形式多樣,字體也就相應豐富。但任何時候都得牢記“最適合的也就是最好”的原則。

脊上要再現封面文字,當書籍排列在書架上時,它擔負著標示書名、編著者、出版者名等說明任務。

為了便於讀者查找,書脊上的字體變化不宜過多,一般採用正規的印刷體較少用書法或手寫體。

如果書籍較厚,書脊有一定的空間,也常用圖形裝飾封底上的主要文字是書價和書號,也有些放編輯名、設計者名、內容簡介、標識或書勒口上常見的是書籍內容簡介、作者簡介等。
