具體講,在書籍形態設計的色彩、結構、字號、字形材料、印刷形式等設計元素的應用,均在各個環節中有所側重、加強或減弱。

採用哪種設計手法,是隨設計師心理的自然調節來進行的,環襯、扉頁的設計採用的是遞減的方法,即用形、用色均以簡為原則,但這種“簡”並不是單純指簡單

西方現代設計中的對比原則,從結構上看是橫與豎的對比語言,這點在各民族的藝術作品中均被最為廣泛地利用。

橫與豎是基本的結構形式,它們的對比產生沉靜或活躍的視覺感受。任何生命的生長均是按豎的原則,如樹木人的直立等,均是生命象徵;從豎立至橫平,即是一種矛盾。平躺,意味著人的生命的消亡、樹木的伐倒等。

設計作品中出現一系列的橫排文字,設計師要打破這種沉寂與平行、創造出活潑的視覺效果,就可以置入豎排的文字,設計作品便能“動”起來。

美與醜、雅與俗、動與靜、高與低、快與慢的對比法則,出現於文學作品。
