字體是版面設計的基本元素。讀者通過對字體形狀的識別,產生內容聯想。字體識別在閱讀中首當其沖,字體識別的構成因素有字體、字號、字型。字體包括印刷常用的宋體、黑體、楷體、仿宋體,還有其他行書、隸書、魏碑等;字號是指字體的大小,如常用的正文四號、五號字;字型則指字體的長寬比,有方的扁的和長方的。

字體的來源,目前有兩種,一種是傳統的鉛字,另一種是當今日見廣泛應用的電腦激光字。不管來源於哪種字,我們對它們的評價標準是一樣的——正確、協調。


不同字體會給讀者帶來不同的感情色彩,瞭解不同字體所帶來的感情特性對版面設計表現書籍內容無疑是不可缺少的語匯。

書籍字體不同於其他廣告性字體,平常我們所提到的書捲氣其實質就是指端莊、含蓄,書籍字體是相對穩定的。
