插圖即插附於書刊或文字之間的圖畫。是一種視覺傳達形式,是一種信息傳播媒介。插圖是運用圖案表現的形象,本著審美與實用相統一的原則,盡量使線條,形態清晰明快,製作方便。插圖是世界都能通用的語言。

書籍插圖的定義

插圖即插附於書刊或文字之間的圖畫。是一種視覺傳達形式,是一種信息傳播媒介。插圖是運用圖案表現的形象,本著審美與實用相統一的原則,盡量使線條,形態清晰明快,製作方便。插圖是世界都能通用的語言。

插圖屬於“大眾傳播”領域的視覺傳達設計( Visual Communication Design)範疇,是藝術設計的分支。最基本含義是“插在文字中間幫助說明內容的圖畫”。

中國古代因插圖出現的形式不同,故名稱各異,如:宋元小說中的捲頭畫則為“繡像”,而表示章回故事的稱為“全圖”。

在中世紀聖經手抄本中稱 illumination指聖經或祈禱文中的裝飾性文字和圖案造型、宗教書籍中的聖像。現代插圖是指視覺形象說明、論證文字的概念或圖示事情的經過。現代插圖有狹義和廣義之分。

狹義的插圖概念指插圖,即用來論證和說明的繪畫作品;而廣義的插圖概念指可以作為說明和論證的視覺材料,如插畫、圖表、攝影等。
