色彩梯度是指各顏色的要素差形成等距對比。色彩要素的梯度對比容易形成類似音樂中的節奏感,因此有助於色彩的和諧。我們採用梯度對比的靈感來自於 Ostwald在他的色立體上演繹的“色彩秩序”原則。根據 Ostwald的觀點,色彩的節奏感可以在同一色彩空間維度上通過等距間隔形成的有序對比達到。

與此相反,無序的對比變化會使某些顏色更突出,同時使另一些顏包變得昏暗,從而因此,我們在HSL色彩空間的色相、純度和明度軸上運用梯度對比原則使每一個顏色都遵循統一的梯度對比,從而建立起具有節奏感的色彩組合框架色相對比的梯度節奏性原則是指色相在跨度範圍內均勾分佈,每一個梯度間隔都相等。

純度和明度對比也遵循類似於色相對比的梯度原則,總體對比跨度越大,色彩方案的對比越強。但要達到色彩梯度對比的節奏感每一個色彩組合至少需要三套色以上,否則沒有兩個以上對比梯度則無法形成節奏性重復。

結合色彩家族性原則和梯度節奏性原則,我們的方法能包括傳統色彩理論，中幾種代表性的色相和諧搭配原則,成為代替傳統色彩理論中的色相和諧原則的一個通用模型。這樣,和諧的色相對比方案便可通過設定顏色套數和色相總體跨度來達到。
