印張通過印刷機鏈條式傳送器的傳送,速度已經被降低了。但因為降低的幅度比較小,所以,印張在向收紙台方向運動的速度,仍然保持在1.5~2.2m/s之間。

假如以這樣的速度把印張投向收紙台,方面,印張的前緣很容易因受到沖擊而皺折;另一方面,也很難把印張鋪平整齊。

為了改善上述情況,在近代高速膠印機上,普遍採用了一種專門的裝置,用來降低送往收紙台的印張的速度,使印張在收紙臺上方被緩慢地放開,並徐徐落下。

人們把這種用來降低紙張速度的機構,稱為印張制動器常用的印張制動器種類較多,特別是隨著印刷速度的迅速提高,又給印張控制器提出了更高的要求


近代膠印印刷機的印張運動速度,在正常轉速下約為2m/s左右,根據一般的經驗認為,若將上述紙張速度降低到0.5m/s以下時,才有可能避免因紙速過高而引起的走紙慣性和紙張沖擊力,從而使印張平穩而整齊地堆積在收紙臺上。印張制動器主要有兩種形式,機械式印張制動器和氣動式印張制動器
