字號就是指字體的大小,字號的選擇要根據書籍的內容和讀者對象來確定。9~11P(小五號和五號)的字體對成年人連續閱讀最為適宜。8P(六號)過小,容易使眼睛過早疲勞:如用12P(小四號)或更大的字號,按正常閱讀距離能見到的字變少了,會影響書籍的信息保有量。

字號就是指字體的大小,字號的選擇要根據書籍的內容和讀者對象來確定。9~11P(小五號和五號)的字體對成年人連續閱讀最為適宜。8P(六號)過小,容易使眼睛過早疲勞:如用12P(小四號)或更大的字號,按正常閱讀距離能見到的字變少了,會影響書籍的信息保有量。嬰幼兒讀物要用36P(小初號)的字體,小學生讀物用12~16P(小四號、四號、小三號、三號)的字體,老年人的讀物也要用較大的字體。一些工具書、字典等篇幅長、字數多的書籍,要用較小的字號,以減少書籍裝訂的厚度

正文的文字編排,一般可採用不同的字體或不同級數的字體來區分層次。原則上同一級的標題,全書要採用相同的字體級數。每一章、節標題可以聚中排,也可以齊頭排,為了突出也可以多占行數進行排列。小標題的字體要略小於章、節標題的字體。正文的字體又要小於小標題的字體以此類推。
