選擇性理解是指受傳者面對接觸到的視覺符號信息時,總是依據自己的價值觀念及思維方式做出獨特的個人理解,使之同受傳者固有的認識相協調,而不是互相沖突。



選擇性理解有兩個層面的意義:一方面,受傳者在所接受到的視覺符號信息中,只對其中的一部分進行深層次的認識、思考和處理,而對其他視覺符號信息僅停留在註意這個層次上。另一方面,對同樣一個信息,不同的人可能有不同的理解。這種理解為人們所固有的態度和信仰所制約,這就是所謂的“仁者見仁,智者見智”。
