彩色數字印刷系統因顏色合成方式的不同而有不同的系統構造。

無論是單路系統和多路系統,顏色合成都有三種方式:

一是直接在承印物上合成彩色,也就是把每個色版上的油墨(或呈色劑)分別轉移到承印物上;

二是在中間載體上合成顏色,這種方式採用間接轉移,每個色版上的油墨(或呈色劑)都轉移到轉印滾筒上,集中後一起傳遞到承印物上;

三是在可成像表面合成顏色,即在可成像錶面集中所有的色版的油墨(或呈色劑)後,再轉移到承印物上。
