The overprint rate represents the ratio of the amount of ink printed on the previous color by the subsequent color to the amount of ink printed directly on the paper, which is always less than 100%. That is to say, the amount of ink printed on the previous color by the latter color is definitely smaller than that printed directly on paper by the latter color.

The size of the overprint rate will affect the color saturation of the secondary color. The higher the overprint rate, the greater the saturation of the color, and the brighter the color. For monochrome machines, the overprint rate is generally high, while for multi-color machines, not only is the overprint rate low, but it can also cause color mixing between the front and back colors.
