合成紙也稱為化工薄膜紙、塑料紙、聚合物紙等，是採用以合成樹脂為基本成分的高分子有機化合物（聚苯乙烯、聚丙烯、聚乙烯等塑料纖維）、​人造短合成纖維和木漿等原料經壓延或擠壓而成的平面材料。

合成紙概述定義：

合成紙也稱為化工薄膜紙、塑料紙、聚合物紙等，是採用以合成樹脂為基本成分的高分子有機化合物（聚苯乙烯、聚丙烯、聚乙烯等塑料纖維）、

人造短合成纖維和木漿等原料經壓延或擠壓而成的平面材料。其外觀與普通植物纖維紙相似，性能卻更具有優勢，是現代紙張生產的一次重大改革，

是當今世界市場上流行的印刷包裝裝滿高檔新材料合成紙在成型加工過程中，為了使其具有良好的白度、不透明度、印刷性和書寫性，根據所採用的原料不同，

加人各種無機填充劑（黏土，滑石粉），增黏劑、穩定劑和防老化劑等，紙張成型後，還要再經過處理氧化等工序才能使用。

合成紙在美日等國已有三十多年的發展史。20世紀末期出現以聚烯烴為主要材料的合成紙，因其具備了紙張和塑料的兩種性能，可在許多特殊領域取代天然紙張，


並逐步成為種具有多種用途的成熟材料。近年來，隨著合成紙新品種的不斷出現，應用領域不斷增加，傳統的合成紙含義已難以將其概括。

我國合成紙起步較晚，市場。技術仍有待進一步完善。目前全國全年用量為3-4萬噸主要依賴進口，基本上為聚丙烯合成紙，多用做服裝袋、手提袋、印刷商標等產品。
