金屬印刷上光油也稱金屬印刷上光清漆，塗布上光油可保護印刷圖案，防止機械損傷，同時可增加圖文光澤和硬度，使印刷面的塗膜具一定柔韌性和耐化學腐蝕性。

上光油的技術要求：光澤度高，有足夠的錶面硬度、耐摩擦，與白塗料和彩色油墨親和性好。色澤淺，耐熱性好，經一定溫度乾燥烘烤不泛黃變色，若用於罐頭商標，

還必須雨沸水殺菌和蒸氣殺菌。流平性好，有較好的抗沖擊強度和柔韌性，成膜後能承受後序機械加工。

上光油分類：不同類型的上光油，均有各自最適宜的烘烤溫度和時間，要註意合理選用。烘烤不足，則塗膜軟，附著力差，甚至鐵片堆疊時易造成粘連；

若烘烤過度，則塗膜發脆此外，畫冊印刷公司在上光油中加入少量的潤滑劑，經烘烤後潤滑劑浮到塗膜錶面，能使塗膜有較好的沖拔性能，沖拔前塗膜錶面具有低光澤度，
