新媒體將各媒體集合成一個彼此補充、密切相關的信息有機體,為人們提供更為方便和友好的工作學習環境,它與人腦的聯想思維方式一致,通過連接技術,可使用戶在閱讀和檢索過程中從一個問題跳躍到與其相關的各類問題中,而不必按照原有的順序進行,極大地提高了藝術學習效率。學生是具有獨立個性的年輕人個體,在藝術學習方面,他們有不同的學習方法,個性,社會經濟地位和生活經歷。程式化和單一的教學模式已經不適用於新媒體時代的藝術教育了。

在課程設置上,首要的應是設計專業基礎課程,包括造型、色彩和設計基礎。其次是文化理論方面的課程,包括社會審美研究、設計方法論、設計史學等理論性課程,這些理論作為框架,教師可以利用新媒體的特性改變傳充的單向度灌輸式教學方式,調動學生自主學習。結合新媒體,通過小組討論、PPT演示、以興趣為主導自我探究、與不同方向的學生合作創作等方式進行教學。在專業軟件的課程設置上,根據學生的設計個性,以技巧性學習為主有針對性地進行創作練習。
