Symbols and usage for proofreading in book printing 【 Buke printing factory 】
Proofreading symbols are symbols used to indicate errors on proofs and how to make changes. They are the standard language commonly used by editors, proofreaders, typesetters, and proofreaders.
There are various types of errors in the layout, and the correction or indication of how to make changes is necessary for the proofreader to correctly understand the intentions of the publishing department and revise the content according to the standard proofreading symbols. Editors and proofreaders must correctly grasp the proofreading symbols in order to accurately express their ideas without being misunderstood by the proofreaders, resulting in futile repeated changes.
There are national standards for proofreading symbols, and GB/T14706-1993 "Proofreading Symbols and Their Usage" specifies proofreading symbols and their usage.
The following issues should be noted when using proofreading symbols:
① The use of proofreading symbols should strictly follow the regulations in "Proofreading Symbols and Their Usage".
② Corrected words, punctuation, and symbols are usually written with a leader line in the blank space near the center of the layout. If written between lines, the same proofreading symbol should be marked outside the center of the line to stand out and avoid omissions.
③ The proofreading leads should not overlap or cross as much as possible. In case of unavoidable situations, different colored pens should be used to distinguish them. The proofreading leads should be led out as much as possible above the modified part, leaving room for errors in the lower part.
④ Don't make up symbols casually, so that others don't understand what they mean.
⑤ Proofreading and proofreading must use a colored pen to write proofreading symbols and characters indicating corrections, and pencil writing is not allowed.
⑥ Proofread foreign language in printed form.
