① Magnifier. Mainly used to observe the dot situation on the image, usually using a dot specific magnifying glass or a 5-10 times ordinary magnifying glass. When proofreading images, it is often necessary to judge the production quality by observing the condition of the dot. The ideal dot quality should be the smooth and clean edge of the dot. When observing the dot, three areas of brightness, darkness, and middle tone should be identified to observe the condition of the dot. A good plate making effect should have small dots (10% dots) in the bright areas and small white dots (90% dots) in the dark areas. The situation of dot overprinting can also be observed through a magnifying glass.
② Line quantity ruler. It is a tool for measuring the number of screening lines on an image on a proof sheet. It involves placing a beam of radiation lines on a transparent sheet. When used, the measuring ruler is placed on the image proof sheet and rotated to a certain angle. A symmetrical pattern will appear, pointing towards the number marked on the radiation side. This number is the number of screening lines on the image.
③ Chromatography. When proofreading color samples, chromatography can be used to compare whether the color blocks or background colors meet the design requirements. On the edges of color proofs, sometimes test strips are printed to check the quality of image reproduction. You can use a magnifying glass to observe.
④ Straight edge. Used to measure the dimensions of various parts of a layout.
In the era of the internet, the samples arranged by the prepress department of a printing factory can be sent to the publishing department of the publishing house through the internet. The publishing staff, art editors, and responsible editors of the publishing house can proofread the samples in their own offices.
