掃金技術雖然有著非常明顯的優勢，但它並不是十全十美的，其最主要的特點是在特定的部位形成仿金效果，但是單一的掃金工藝很難達到目前最好的金屬光澤和質感，在某些方面不如燙金的效果好。

其缺點主要表現在以下幾方面。

（1）在需要大面積仿金的印張上，它不如印金來的方便，效果上也沒有優勢。因此掃金技術是一種中等的仿金效果加工技術，它存在一定的局限性，這就在一定程度上限制了它的快速發展。

（2）掃金機對環境的要求非常高，溫度要控制在22-25℃，濕度要控制在50%～50否則容易出現質量問題

（3）掃金過程中經常發生粘臟和掉粉的故障
