當壓凹凸燙印達到一定深度時，需要有底模凸版與之配合，立體燙印與凹凸壓印都需要底模的配合，但二者所需要底模的根本區別在於：立體燙印過程中一直保持加熱，這也是立體燙印的首要工作條件。底模主要有兩種：①傳統的石膏凸模，這種凸模成本低，但強度低、工藝復雜、費時。②新型高分子材料預制凸模。即採用玻璃纖維、聚氯乙烯或聚苯乙烯預先製作凸模的工藝。它是將塑料版材與模具（凹模）重合後，放入具有加熱及冷卻系統的模壓機內，通過調節溫度與壓力，得到與模具（凹模）形狀一樣，凹凸正好相反的凸模

立體燙印過程要一直保持加熱，實際加工時，立體燙印版在溫度升高時會有一定的膨脹變量，而底模的溫度卻仍然保持室溫，這將造成實際工作過程中燙印版與底模的不配合，致使壓碎底模或無法燙印。因此在製作底模凸版時要充分考慮燙印版的膨脹率，要求採用精確的計算和新材料及特殊的底模製作技術，使製作的底模能與熱壓加工產生膨脹變量的立體燙印版仍有精細完美的匹配。
