裝訂是圖書印製的最後一道工序,它的質量好壞非常重要。因在發裝時必須對裝訂方法和規格提出詳細的要求。應做以下準備工作:確定裝訂的工藝方法,就平裝而言,就有鐵絲平訂、縫紉訂、鎖線平訂、無線膠訂等,可根據圖書的具體情況進行選擇。例如較薄的書(10mm以內)可用鐵絲平訂。較厚的書可選鎖線平訂或無線膠訂。使用鎖線平訂的牢固度好,但成本高一些,現在大量使用的是無線膠訂。使用頻度高的工具書,最好用鎖線平訂。

標明插頁應插入的位置(在設計插頁位置時,最好在一整帖印頁的前後)。

確定裝訂數量、交貨日期及交貨地點給出裝訂順序,給出裝訂尺寸精裝書的發裝除上述的準備工作外,還要確定封皮的用料、書背的形式(圓背或平背)、燙金(電化鋁)的要求、飄口的大小環襯的形式以及其他工藝要求。
