標題的排版禁則包括:對題、背題和疊題。對題是指在雜志的兩版面上和報紙並列的兩欄中,出現相同形式、相同版位的標題。因為這種版面形式顯得很呆板,甚至會造成兩個標題連讀的情況,般應防止出現。當遇到這種情況時,可採用兩種方法來解決。

是將其中一個標題變換其排版形式(例如,將其中一個標題改為豎排或其他形式的標題),另一種方法是調換文章的次序,以避免出現這種形式的標題。在報紙版面中,為了表示兩篇文章處於並的地位,有時也有意識地設計這種標題。

背題是指圖書版面中較大的標題出現在版末,題下無正文行(有時書版中的最小級別的標題允許出現在版面上)。解決背題時可採用伸行法和縮行法。伸行法就是將正文行伸出一行或幾行,將版末的標題排入下一版上部。縮行法是將正文行縮進一行或幾行,使標題下最少能排兩行正文。

疊題是指在報紙版面上,上下相鄰出現相同形式的標題。但對於較短的文章或標題較小時,也允許出現這種標題。
