由於凹版的圖文部分低於空白部分（版面），且凹下的版紋有深淺之分，以此表現圖文的高低、油墨的厚薄，因而印刷出來的圖文有較好的層次感，並且其油墨也是凸起的。正是由於凹印印版的這種特點，使得凹版印刷可以通過網穴的深淺和網穴的大小來表現圖文的層次，並且圖文線條清晰，層次分明，用手觸摸有凹凸感。根據凹印印版的特點和凹版印刷工藝的特點，凹版印刷適合於防偽印刷和防偽包裝的特點主要包括以下幾個方面

（1）防偽效果好。利用網穴的大小和深淺來控制線條的粗細和圖文的以任意控制，仿製和偽造十分困難，尤其是網穴的深淺，根據印好的印刷品進行通真層次，在製版雕刻製版的可能性非常小。
