油墨的物理耐抗性一般指油墨的耐熱性、耐光性、耐摩擦性等,測定油墨的耐光性主要是因為許多印刷品(如宣傳畫、廣告等)需要長期暴曬在日光下,如果所用的油墨不耐光,將會使印刷品發生變色、退色等現象,影響其使用性能。測定油墨的耐熱性,主要是因為許多印刷品需要加熱乾燥,如鐵皮印刷品、玻璃印刷品等,在出版印刷方面也有很多乾燥裝置採用熱風乾燥、紅外線乾燥,即使是UV印刷也會有使印刷品升高溫度的情況。測定油墨的耐摩擦性,主要是因為許多印刷品在使用過程中要接受摩擦的考驗。如包裝印刷品,在商品存儲、運輸、銷售的過程中,每一環節都有可能使包裝錶面經受摩擦,耐摩擦性差的油墨墨膜就會受到相當的損壞。出版物也是如此,耐摩擦性的出版物在翻閱的時候可能會使手指染上顏色。
