油墨是由色料、連結料、適性調整劑、乾燥性調整劑、印刷效果調整劑等組成。色料是由有機顏料和無機顏料組成。色料的作用是

①給油墨以顏色,並根據用量的多少決定油墨的濃度

②給油墨以一定的稠厚等物理性能。

③最大限度地使油墨具有較強的耐久性。

④在一定程度上影響油墨乾燥性,以氧化結膜型乾燥最為顯著。

油墨中連結料的作用:

①給油墨以一定的黏度、黏性、流動性和觸變性。

②決定油墨的乾燥類型及乾燥速度。

③決定油墨光澤度、耐磨性、牢固性等。

不同的印刷方式要選用不同的油墨,因為印刷版材和印刷所使用的材料不一樣,油墨附著的承印物不同,所以需要各類不同適性的油墨。例如,膠印和凹印所使用的油墨所需要的黏度和屈服值是不同的。不同印刷工藝所使用的油墨主要區別在油墨的連結料上。不同的連結料使油墨的流動性能、乾燥性能形式都不同,以適應不同印刷工藝的需要。例如凸版印刷油墨需要滲透乾燥,膠印油墨需要氧化結膜乾燥,塑料印刷則需要揮發乾燥和氧化結膜乾燥,因為塑料薄膜等承印材料無法滲透乾燥,完全不存在滲透乾燥的情況。但是,這三種油墨的色料是一致的,區別就在油墨中的連結料上。
