為了彌補印刷過程中由於碎紙、套印不準、墨色深淡及污損等原因所造成的紙張損耗,除了要按書刊的印張數和印製冊數計算出所需紙張的理論數量外,還必須考慮用以補償紙張損耗的餘量。這項餘量就稱為“加放數”、“伸放數”,因一般以理論用紙量的百分率表示,所以也稱為“加放率計算實際用紙量時,可將理論用紙量乘以“1+加放數”的系數。如加放數為3%,則該系數就是(1+3%)=1.03。

例如,50令紙在加放率為3.5%的實際用紙量為

150令+50令×3.5%=50令×(1+3.5%)

50令×1.035=51.75令
